NORTHWEST COLORADO TO HOST COLORADO SPACE BUSINESS ROUNDTABLE (CSBR) ROAD TRIP TO ATTRACT NEW INDUSTRY TO COAL COMMUNITIES

August 15, 2023

The Colorado Space Business Roundtable (CSBR) in partnership with the Associated Governments of Northwest Colorado (AGNC) to host an official road trip for invited aerospace business leaders, legislators, local energy business stakeholders, and local government trailblazers to encourage industry growth in Moffat and Routt counties. On August 22 and 23, 2023, CSBR and AGNC will provide a guided tour of regions currently facing a coal transition with multiple mines and coal-fired power plants closing by 2030. For this transition, the local road trip planning group will unveil the new vision of the Trapper Industrial Park to CSBR industry participants.

At 1:30pm on Tuesday, August 22, special guest U.S. Senator Michael Bennet plans to join a tour of the Trapper Mine with Moffat County, AGNC and CSBR participants.

“These Colorado communities are ready for new industry partners to discover the great northwest region of this beautiful state,” said Melody Villard, Moffat County Commissioner. “This region is known for pioneers, from the early days of energy exploration to this time of transition, the resiliency and innovation in Moffat and Routt counties will be showcased to new industry leaders looking for expansion and new opportunities.”

The tour will include stops at the following locations: Craig Station Power Plant, Trapper Mine facility, Moffat County Courthouse, Yampa Valley Regional Airport. Presentations will include representatives from CSBR, AGNC, Moffat County Commission, Craig Economic Development, Craig Station Power Plant, Routt County Commission, Yampa Valley Regional Airport Business Park, Yampa Valley Partnership for Students, Stewardship, and Sustainability (YVPS3), and Colorado Northwest Community College.

The goals of the CSBR Road Trips, a statewide focus, are threefold:

  1. To promote Colorado Aerospace – discuss how all regions of the state benefit from Colorado’s aerospace industry
  2. To seek potential suppliers and subcontractors
  3. To engage educators and students in aerospace STEM activities and opportunities.

Though the focus industry on this 2-day trip is aerospace, the discussions and plans expand further to a wide range of trades who are being approached regarding the opportunities at the newly envisioned Trapper Industrial Park. The modern infrastructure, community support, and highly skilled workforce at the proposed Trapper Industrial Park are primed for an established company looking to expand their operations in a region that will support their success. Find the newly created Trapper Industrial Park brochure on the City of Craig Economic Development site, Trapper Industrial Park | discovercraig.com.

A special thanks to the sponsors of this event, who include Colorado Space Business Roundtable (CSBR), Associated Governments of Northwest Colorado (AGNC), TriState Generation and Transmission, and the Yampa Valley Regional Airport.
